Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
On January 8, a case of cyber fraud emerged in the Madan Mohan Para area under the Baksirhat police station jurisdiction in Cooch Behar district. The victim reported being targeted by a fraudster who impersonated a CBI officer. The accused instructed the victim to sit in front of a phone for 72 hours, during which time the victim was pressured to transfer money under the pretext of an official investigation.
The Cooch Behar district police initiated an investigation, tracing the fraudster to Visakhapatnam. The accused, identified as Pillanani, was arrested after confirming his involvement in the scam. The police have been working on identifying other potential victims and assessing the broader scope of the cybercrime. The authorities are also investigating whether the accused is connected to larger fraud networks operating online. The police continue their efforts to prevent further cyber fraud and raise awareness of such scams.
